It started with Ras Wollega’s father who as a poor child growing up in Georgia in the 1920’s, was able to draw and shade his pictures unbelievably well. He loved cars and drew them the most. He had ideas for cars that were so good the Ford Motor Company sent him a check to encourage him to keep up his design ideas. Although his father is artistically gifted and choose not to pursue a career in the fine arts; he passed that talent onto his seven children. Ras was the only one who couldn’t go a day without drawing or painting something.

Ras Wollega was born in Cincinnati, Ohio USA, and has been painting with oil paints for over 30 years. Originally inspired by the work of Andrew Wyeth and Vincent Van Gogh he started exhibiting at side walk art shows around town. It’s amazing that as a teenager he started out as a self taught artist and it took no time for him to get a lot of notice around the local art scene. Today, his career has so many highlights it would be hard to list all of them here. But I guess we’ll have to start saying something, because I haven’t been too specific up to now.

How about a Three Man Show in New York City at the age of 20, or two One Man Shows at a gallery in Berkeley California with the second show a near sell out. He has 10 of his images included in the ‘Clip art’ of a couple of the major computer software companies.

Ras has been published in several art books and currently has a Licensing Agent in Paris France to handle the world Licensing rights. This self taught artist and high school graduate has recently been named an ‘Associate Professor of Art’ at the ‘Accademico del Verbano’ in Vercelli, Italy.
